Bill
Fritz has been Head Coach of the Men’s Cross Country Team for the last
27 years and the Head Coach of the Women’s Cross Country Team for the last
9 years. He was also the Assistant Coach for the Men’s and Women’s Indoor
& Outdoor Track & Field Teams for 21 years before assuming the
Head Coaching position 6 years ago. Fritz has been named Coach of the Year
in all three sports by several organizations, and since 1994 he has been
selected NCAA III Mideast Region Coach of the Year 4 times.
Coach Fritz is also a tenured professor who specializes in science-related
courses in the Health & Exercise Science Department at Rowan University.
He received his BS in Health &Physical Education from Northern State
University, South Dakota and his MS in Exercise Science from South Dakota
State University. Graduate work was also done at Southern Illinois University
– Carbondale.
Prior to coming to Rowan University, Fritz coached high school and
college Cross Country and Track & Field in South Dakota, North Dakota,
and Illinois.
Coach Fritz is certified by the United States Track & Field Coaches as a Level I Coach, a Level II Coach, and also as a Lead Instructor.
Coach Fritz’s coaching philosophy stresses academic achievement, developing good work habits, and competing with passion. Another important ingredient is having fun and enjoying the total inter-collegiate athletic experience. He takes each athlete at whatever level they are on with a long term view towards development to ensure their longevity in the sport.

12 Men XC All Americans; 2 Women XC All Americans
14 Men’s Academic All Americans; 7 Women’s Academic All Americans

Team Champions of the NCAA III Mideast Region – 7x Men; 1x Women
2 individual ICAAAA XC champions

1 NCAA I champion; 31 III NCAA champions (Men); 2 NCAA champions (Women)
